Who Could Benefit?

 

A 1-day course for those who work as juniors within commercial real estate debt providers and who have come from a non-property finance background, those working for insurance companies and other non-bank companies who have recently entered or are considering entering the commercial real estate debt space, as well as service providers such as database and software providers keen to understand the nuts and bolts and the jargon related to CRE debt.

Prior knowledge of the debt market is not required, but it is recommended that attendees have the knowledge as taught in the course ‘An Introduction to Property‘. The only item you are requested to bring is a pen. Detailed course book provided on the day. 

This 1-day theory course can be extended with a 2nd and 3rd day taking in theory and excel modelling practice providing intermediate and advanced-level modelling skills using VBA. This will provide the attendee with rounded, essential knowledge on real estate and real estate debt financial modelling and risk modelling.

Modules

Public Course on Understanding RE Debt



Understanding CRE debt offers 4 core modules in this training course day. This will provide the attendee with a solid knowledge foundation on property debt lending. The first module looks at the use of debt in RE investment, in particular the motivations for its use and who the key providers are.

Subsequently the change in capital debt sources for public and private debt will be studied. In module three risk, return and leverage will be explained. In the final module a risk assessment of property debt is made. It will include basic math for loans & mortgages, a look at underwriting & credit risk for lenders, and negotiating the term sheet.

Along the way course will explain the jargon you need to know. In addition, there will be case studies looking at the credit decision & the underwriting process, plus one looking at scenario & sensitivity analysis. Attendees are expected to have mastered the knowledge as taught in the course ‘an Introduction to Property’

We have a large range of modules available and courses can be done with or without excel exercise as you wish. We have pre-selected the most impactful modules, four of which make up the public training course day. Another module exist looking at regulatory impact on Commercial Real Estate lending such as the Basel regulation. You can also select financial and risk modelling modules, a module on legal securities in real estate finance (including details on setting financial covenants), or look in-depth at Mortgage bonds (Pfandbrief) and other securities, CMBS structuring & default modelling.
