A course with unique content aimed at those who work as junior analysts within debt providers such as banks, insurance companies and non-bank companies who have entered or are considering entering the CRE debt space, or risk analysts who already work in real estate debt lending and want to understand how to use financial modelling tools in excel effectively to create institutional quality ready-presentable model outputs to your investment committee.
‘Real Estate Debt Practitioner in Excel’ is based on the handbook “Assessing real estate risk – applied models, concepts, methods” (copy included). This course is an introduction to financial modelling for those who already have a sound knowledge of real estate debt or investment and keen to improve their CRE debt modelling skills. A good working knowledge of using Excel functions is required for attending this course. As this course assumes a sound understanding of key financial terms, property investment fundamentals and mortgage finance fundamentals, we recommend possessing the knowledge as taught in ‘An Introduction to Property’ and ‘Understanding Real Estate Debt’. Please bring your own laptop on the day to enable you to do the exercises.
CRE Debt Practitioner – part 1
This intermediate-level RE debt financial modelling course is the embodiment of the handbook “Assessing real estate risk – applied models, concepts, methods” teaching the practical skills needed to construct robust but flexible financial and risk models using a case study. The cash flow model you build from scratch according to best practice is essential for real estate investment underwriting and lending analysis.
Taught by Dr. Nicole Lux, a senior practitioner with real-life, hands-on experience, sharing insight and expertise.
This 1-day course will enable attendees to setup a full underwritten cash flow model with risk assessment tools for Commercial Real Estate Debt in excel. We provide essential tools to create insight into the cash flow and risk related to Real Estate Debt from the point of view of a debt provider as well as user. All the advanced-level key measures will be entered and manipulated in excel.
The course will start off with the basics in financial modelling and then move on to how to establish suitable driver-based models for forecasting. Not only will you learn to model complex cash flows of Real Estate transactions looking at the investment case, senior & mezzanine debt cash flows, you will be taught how to build the sensitivity analysis so central in a deal review process.
